How do I know that I’m a Christian? How do I know that I’m truly saved?
These are questions that every Christian wrestles with at one point or another, and various answers have been given – though not all of the same quality.
But in this work, two of the most brilliant reformers, William Perkins and Girolamo Zanchi, answer these questions by treating the doctrine of assurance.
Perkins’ work, “A Case of Conscience” works through the epistle of 1 John in dialogue format showing how John unfolds the doctrine of assurance in that book.
Zanchi takes a different approach in his work, “A Survey for the Christian Conscience,” and deals with the doctrine systematically in view of the doctrine of election.
